Copper is an extremely versatile metal that is used in many different types of applications. Its low cost, high ductility and electric conductivity make it suitable for a wide range of applications including roofs, casting, architectural accents, signal elements, lighting, plumbing and even jewelry. Its antimicrobial properties and resistance to corrosion also make it popular for kitchen and bathroom sinks, work surfaces and sculptures.
Copper was added to Minecraft with the Caves and Cliffs part 1 update in 2016. It can be gathered from regular copper ore or its deepslate variant. It is then smelted into copper ingots using a crafting table, and these can be turned into blocks of copper in the game. Blocks of copper can then be used to craft things such as stairs and slabs. However, they are primarily used as decorative blocks as they will begin to oxidize over time. This oxidization takes four stages to complete and can be prevented by waxing the copper block.
To make a copper block, simply place nine copper ingots into a 3×3 crafting grid. The copper block will then appear in your inventory.
In addition to being a decorative block, copper can be crafted into a wand and spyglass. It can also be used to create a lightning rod which attracts lightning during a storm, redirecting it away from flammable wooden or wool builds. It can also be crafted into a stair and ladder which requires five copper ingots to make each.
